Sean Strickland was escorted out of the UFC’s latest event after fighting with his next opponent in the crowd.

The middleweight champion was in Las Vegas to watch a card headlined by Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

However, he didn’t get to see it as security removed him from the iconic venue following a brawl with Dricus du Plessis, who he will fight at UFC 297 on January 20.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan first announced the middleweight rivals had been scrapping in the crowd on the live TV broadcast – he also confirmed Strickland had left the building with the help of security.

Footage of the incident was caught on camera by several people and quickly uploaded to social media.

One video shows Strickland jumping over seats to attack his rival who he hit with several punches and elbows as people around the pair tried intervene.

After an almighty effort from security, the two 185lb KO artists were dragged away from each other and the card continued without any further issues outside the cage.

Strickland is one of the most entertaining – and controversial – fighters on the UFC roster and this type of behaviour is nothing out of the ordinary for him.

The 32-year-old has found himself in hot water with fans over the years for releasing footage of his sparring KO’s, admitting he is a former Neo Nazi, and taking his trash talk way too far.

Earlier this year, he pulled off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history when he dropped and outpointed Israel Adesanya to become the UFC’s middleweight king.

It didn’t change him, though. Strickland managed to break his belt in the days after the fight before repairing it on camera in front of a wall of assault rifles.

He followed that up by chasing a man with a flamethrower for fun.

Du Plessis has just over a month to wait for his chance to get revenge after suffering a surprise attack at UFC 296.

The South African star is currently riding an eight-fight win streak that includes stoppage victories over former champion Rob Whittaker and British fan favourite Darren Till.

Strickland vs du Plessis is quickly becoming one of 2024’s most anticipated UFC fights.
